چکیده

Abstract High strength and low density make epoxy-based CFRP a highly interesting construction material for the aerospace manufacturing industry. Porosity represents an unavoidable defect significantly weakens values dominated by matrix. To evaluate quality of safety-relevant components, non-destructive evaluation thus characterization porous structures is indispensable. Pulsed thermography fast, large-area non-contact testing method that enables efficient estimation parameters. In this work, authors demonstrate quantitative porosity pulsed on multi-axial laminate fabricated from unidirectional Prepregs first time. The characteristic, extensive expansion pores in fiber direction, addressed 3D microstructure Cone beam X-ray computed tomography data. Hence, application effective medium theories model based enabled. After investigation effect pore thermal diffusivity finite element simulations, photothermal sample with global volume $$\Phi =1.51\%$$ Φ = 1.51 % demonstrated. accuracy fast ( $$\Delta \Phi =0.63\%$$ Δ 0.63 ) comparable to standard ultrasonic method. Consequently, large, complex shaped UD/Epoxy composite components

Drilling of carbon fibre reinforced laminates – a study

The distinguishing characteristics of carbon fibre reinforced laminates, like low weight, high strength or stiffness, had resulted in an increase of their use during the last decades. Although parts are normally produced to “near-net” shape, machining operations like drilling are still needed. In result of composites non-homogeneity, this operation can lead to delamination, considered the most ...

Delamination Analysis of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Laminates: Evaluation of a Special Step Drill

Drilling of carbon fibre/epoxy laminates is usually carried out using standard drills. However, it is necessary to adapt the processes and/or tooling as the risk of delamination, or other damages, is high. These problems can affect mechanical properties of produced parts, therefore, lower reliability. Production of higher quality holes is a challenge to everyone related with composites industry...

Characterization and analysis of carbon fibre-reinforced polymer composite laminates with embedded circular vasculature.

A study of the influence of embedded circular hollow vascules on structural performance of a fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite laminate is presented. Incorporating such vascules will lead to multi-functional composites by bestowing functions such as self-healing and active thermal management. However, the presence of off-axis vascules leads to localized disruption to the fibre architectu...

Evaluation of Tools and Cutting Conditions on Carbon Fibre Reinforced Laminates

The distinctive characteristics of carbon fibre reinforced plastics, like low weight or high specific strength, had broadened their use to new fields. Due to the need of assembly to structures, machining operations like drilling are frequent. In result of composites inhomogeneity, this operation can lead to different damages that reduce mechanical strength of the parts in the connection area. F...
